The State has decided to drop charges against former cricketer Dumisani Mankunzini after the complainant chose to withdraw their case against him.
Mankunzini, who spent three months behind bars last year, left the courtroom yesterday with a smile on his face as the Bulawayo magistrate, Mr. Makhelo Ncube, announced that the charges against him had been withdrawn.
Mr. Ncube stated, “An affidavit from the complainant has been filed, withdrawing charges against you. However, this doesn’t mean the case has been dropped; if they ever wish to proceed with the case in the future, they may do so.”
Mankunzini had been facing charges of fraud for allegedly leaving a city lodge where he had been staying without settling his bill. According to court records, he checked into the lodge and stayed for three days before departing without paying his accommodation fees.
