A 20-year-old man hailing from Bulawayo, lost US$5,000 to conmen who tricked him in a prayerful chadonha incident.
Bulawayo Man Loses Thousands To Conmen In Chadonha Incident
The events unfolded on a Thursday when Tinotenda Ndoro disembarked from a Bulawayo bus and patiently waited for his brother at a local fast-food restaurant. Little did Ndoro know that he was about to fall prey to the cunning ploy devised by one Moses Tserayi and his cohorts.
The source reported that Tserayi and his accomplices approached Ndoro with a fabricated tale, claiming they had stumbled upon a sum of money that they were willing to share equally with him. The allure of easy money clouded Ndoro’s judgment as he was lured by Tserayi from Harare’s Market Square Terminus to the Kopje area, under the pretense that it offered a secure location for them to divide the newfound wealth.
Upon reaching the designated spot, Tserayi told Ndoro they would engage in a prayer session before commencing with the division of the money. It was during this seemingly innocent act of spirituality that the plot thickened. Tserayi’s alleged accomplices, posing as police officers, made a sudden appearance. They proceeded to search the duo.

The fake cops then raided Ndoro of $5,000, along with counterfeit notes that Tserayi had in his possession. A third accomplice identified Tserayi as the purported man who picked the lost money, shifting the blame away from Ndoro. The fake police officers, having ostensibly cleared Ndoro, slapped him once and instructed him to go.
As Ndoro distanced himself, the realisation struck that he had been swindled. In a courageous move, he retraced his steps and pursued the perpetrators. The pursuit led him to Abdel Gamal Nassar Road, where he managed to catch up with the fleeing suspects.
An undercover police officer in a private vehicle arrested Moses Tserayi. Meanwhile, the other three perpetrators managed to evade capture by retreating into the Kopje area.
The officer found US$902 in genuine currency, ZWL$4,000, and two counterfeit US$100 notes
Tserayi, now facing charges of theft, appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs. Appollonia Marutya. His fate hangs in the balance as he awaits a bail hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
