In a daring theft, a local businessman, Joseph Maruta, 40, has had his cash and firearm stolen from his girlfriend’s house in Ruwa. The incident occurred on Saturday, leaving Maruta stunned and the police scrambling for answers.
According to reports, Maruta collected a whopping $181,000 cash from a farm in Kwekwe, where he supplies potato seeds. He then stopped by his home in Kambuzuma to pick up his pistol before heading to his girlfriend Leoba Hunda’s place in Springvale, Ruwa. The bag containing the cash and firearm, loaded with two magazines of 15 rounds each, mysteriously vanished while the couple slept.
The thief seemed to have impeccable timing, striking at around 2 am when Maruta heard an alarm sound. His girlfriend checked and attributed it to a neighbor’s house, allowing the thief to continue their dirty work undisturbed. By morning, the bag was gone, leaving Maruta to wonder if he’d just been robbed of his sanity.
The police are now investigating the case, with Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirming that “police are investigating an unlawful entry and theft case in Ruwa.” The rear windscreen of Maruta’s vehicle was found damaged, suggesting a possible break-in.
The stakes are high, with $184,900 and a firearm missing. The police are working to determine whether this was an inside job or a targeted robbery. As the investigation unfolds, one question remains: who got away with the loot?
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story, and let’s hope the police catch the culprit soon. After all, a missing firearm and a small fortune in cash aren’t exactly the kind of things you want floating around.
