CCC’s Worst Nightmare Unleashed As ZEC Gazettes 41 ‘Fraudulent Double Candidates’

On Friday, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) released the definitive list of candidates who will participate in the upcoming general elections on August 23.

This announcement comes amid ongoing legal disputes regarding the eligibility of certain candidates.

It has been reported that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has at last issued a reply to the letter sent by the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) regarding the matter of double candidates.

According to the CCC, a total of forty-one (41) individuals deceitfully submitted nomination papers, claiming to be members of the party.

According to lawyer Thabani Mpofu, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) sent a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on 22 June, demanding a response within two hours upon receipt of the letter.

However, ZEC’s response was significantly delayed, as they only replied after eight days on 30 June. By that time, ZEC had already published the names of the contested candidates in the gazette.

In the letter signed by E. Mamvura on behalf of ZEC’s Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana, the electoral management body stated that it is unable to intervene in the decision made by the Nomination Court.
