The Banket community is in disbelief following the reported murd3r of George Mpofu, 40, allegedly at the hands of his wife, Nyadzisai Zungunde, 39, and her lover.
The brutal incident took place at Oxford Farm last week.
According to police records, Mpofu’s body was discovered by Bertie Zungunde, 22, who then notified the authorities.
On August 11, 2024, around 3:00 PM, a vi0lent confrontation erupted between Nyadzisai Zungunde and her husband along a road near Marowa Farm.
The argument intensified when Mpofu struck Zungunde in the mouth, causing her to lose a tooth. In retaliation, she hit him with a brick on the forehead and then used a stick to strike him on the back.
The altercation escalated further when Mpofu attempted to strangle Zungunde, who fought back by biting his ear.
The couple later decided to seek counseling from Tapfuma Nzou, but as they were heading there, Mpofu reportedly thre@tened to commit su!cide.
Zungunde returned to the farm compound and informed Police Constable Charles Murefu, who promised to relay the information to ZRP Banket the next day.

When authorities arrived the following morning, they found Mpofu’s body hanging from a tree, which led to suspicions that the d3ath might have been staged to look like a su1cide.
The police memo reveals that detectives from CID Chinhoyi and ZRP Banket discovered Mpofu’s body hanging about 500 meters from the site of the earlier altercation. His bloodstained T-shirt was located nearby, and he had visible blood clots on his ear.
The body was found hanging about half a meter above the ground with his feet touching it. Additionally, a bloodstained wooden stick, roughly one meter in length, was recovered from the scene.
The investigation is still in progress, with police treating the case as a potential murd3r disguised as su!cide.
