Nelson Chamisa, the former leader of Zimbabwe’s Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party, has firmly rejected recent threats and allegations against him, insisting that he has “nothing to hide.” His comments came in response to social media provocations and accusations from critics.
The controversy was sparked when a prominent social media supporter of Chamisa, known as “Skilled Rebhara,” humorously threatened Chamisa on X, urging him to resign or face exposure. Chamisa responded defiantly, declaring that his life is an “open book” and expressing confidence in his integrity. He wrote:
“I’m an open book. I have nothing to hide. I live narrow and straight. I seek peace not war. I speak love not hate! The future is happiness!”

In defense of Chamisa, Advocate Thabani Mpofu has challenged the allegations that Chamisa was bribed by the ruling ZANU PF party to undermine the opposition. Mpofu dismissed these claims as a “baseless and orchestrated smear campaign,” accusing critics of working to solidify ZANU PF’s power. He demanded evidence to support the bribery allegations or to expose those making them as ZANU PF sympathizers:
“The claim that Nelson Chamisa was bribed by ZANU PF is a baseless smear, concocted to bolster ZANU’s hold on power. If anyone has evidence, they should produce it, or be exposed as ZANU apologists.”
Prominent political analyst Ibbo Mandaza has also criticized Chamisa, accusing him of “inaction” and misusing the phrase “God is in it” on social media. Mandaza urged Chamisa to step away from opposition politics, suggesting his leadership had been detrimental to mobilizing the masses. Mandaza warned Chamisa to either declare his departure or face potential exposure.
