Opposition politician Nelson Chamisa has stirred controversy by questioning former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Gideon Gono, about the ZiG currency during a memorial service for the late Reverend Ellison Kamupira, a renowned preacher and Chaplain General at Nyaradzo Funeral Services.
In a video shared on Heart and Soul Broadcasting Services (HStv), Chamisa can be seen delivering a speech where he directed a mocking inquiry towards Gono regarding his awareness of the ZiG currency.
“We honor you, Dr. Gono, who has served as the governor of Zimbabwe. Did you hear about the new currency?”
The incident underscores the intersection of politics and economics in Zimbabwe, with public figures such as Chamisa using public platforms to address pressing issues and hold prominent individuals accountable for their knowledge and actions.
Mixed reactions flooded the comment section, with some expressing admiration for Nelson Chamisa.
One commenter asserted, “Respect Nelson. Nobody in Zimbabwe can win against Chamisa in free and fair elections. Munangagwa knows that.” Another commenter, Kudzai, adopted a critical tone, stating, “I say this with all the respect I can muster. Some of your posts lose credibility due to contrived logic, sounding ridiculous.
They make it obvious that you are paid to post stuff.”
However, contrasting views emerged, with some suggesting that Kudzai’s public criticism masks an underlying admiration for Chamisa, as evidenced by their continued engagement with his content.
