Chidimma Adetshina has received an official invitation from the Miss Universe Nigeria organizers to compete in their 2024 event. Adetshina’s departure from the Miss South Africa competition has led to this invitation, brought on by the strong pushback against her nationality-related inquiries.
When the 23-year-old Soweto, South Africa, law student revealed she was pulling out of the Miss South Africa competition, it made headlines. She expressed worries for the security and welfare of her and her family.
Furthermore, the Home Affairs Department of South Africa made this judgment following a preliminary inquiry that revealed Adetshina’s mother might have engaged in “identity th3ft” in order to get South African citizenship.

A social media discussion was sparked by Adetshina’s father’s side of the family’s Nigerian origin being revealed. There were those in South Africa who doubted her ability to represent her nation at Miss Universe.
Furthermore, before it was removed, a petition calling for her exclusion from the competition had amassed almost 14,000 signatures.
However, the Miss Universe Nigeria Instagram account hosted an official press release from the pageant’s organizers, expressing their support for Adetshina and recognizing the “circumstances surrounding [her] withdrawal” and the “challenges she may be facing.”
“As a Nigerian by heritage, we would like to formally invite you to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant,” the press release stated.
“This is an opportunity to represent your father’s native land on an international stage. And we believe you would be an outstanding contender.”
