Chief Nekatambe of Dete, Hwange District in Matabeleland North, has expressed his appreciation for the construction of a 720MW power plant by Titan New Energy.
He highlighted the project’s potential to benefit the local community, particularly by creating job opportunities for his people.
The construction of the power plant is set to commence soon, following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s official unveiling of the plaque and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Titan New Energy 720MW Waste-to-Energy Power Plant Project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Nekatambe conveyed his gratitude to the President for his vision and commitment to ensuring energy accessibility for all Zimbabweans.
“I, Chief Nekatambe, wish to thank our President for his dedication to national development and his efforts to ensure that the country achieves sufficient energy for economic growth.
I am extremely grateful for this project, which will create employment opportunities for our people. I am truly pleased with what is happening,” Chief Nekatambe stated.
The project, with a total investment of US$1 billion, will include a 720MW waste-to-energy power plant and a 200MW solar power plant. It is projected to be fully constructed and operational by December 2028, with an estimated annual power output of 5.76 GWh.
