International award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has commended South Africans in the diaspora who are preparing to vote in London.
The general elections, scheduled for 29 May 2024 in South Africa, will elect a new National Assembly and the provincial legislatures in each of the nine provinces.
This marks the seventh general election held under the conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994.
In a statement seen by Newsreportzim.com on X, Chin’ono stated, “This picture was taken today, showing South Africans lining up to vote in London. This is a right that Mnangagwa’s government has denied to millions of Zimbabweans scattered around the world!”
He continued, “Zimbabweans, both at home and abroad, must now start seriously thinking about a constitutional way to force the ZANU-PF regime to respect citizens’ rights to elect a government of their choice. The liberation struggle was about ONE person, ONE vote, so refusing to allow citizens to vote is a violation of the basis of the liberation struggle!”
