Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has defended Jacob Zuma, stating that Zuma is the only South African president who supported the majority view in Zimbabwe.
Chin’ono asserted that Zuma granted hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP), allowing them to work in South Africa.
He wrote:
This is incorrect and must be corrected!
For all of Jacob Zuma’s failures, Zimbabwe was not one of them.
Jacob Zuma is the only South African sitting president who stood with the majority view in Zimbabwe.
It is not true that he didn’t demand reforms, he actually did.
Before that, he gave hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans permits to work in South Africa, the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit, ZEP.
He also advised the Zimbabwean opposition not to participate in the 2013 general election without reforms.
He told them that it would be difficult for him and the SADC region to push for reforms after the elections.
The Zimbabwean opposition didn’t listen.
Morgan Tsvangirai said one of his lieutenants had told him that God said they should participate in that election without reforms and that they would win.
The rest is history!
Don’t blame Jacob Zuma for things he didn’t do.
He is the only sitting head of state from South Africa who stood with Zimbabweans, but the Zimbabwean opposition chose to ignore his advice.
One of his ministers, Lindiwe Zulu was publicly called a prostitute by Robert Mugabe because of the pressure the South Africans were putting on the ZANUPF lot, so let us not rewrite history!
