Two Time African Journalist of the Year, Hopewell Chin’ono slammed the dishing out of trucks to Zimbabwe’s traditional chiefs by His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and his government.
This year in February, President Mnangagwa handed over 100 Isuzu double-cab vehicles to traditional chiefs yet county’s towns and cities have rotten garbage on the streets due to lack of garbage trucks.
On his X (formerly known as twitter) handle account, Chin’ono wrote the following:
“The President of Zimbabwe dished out 100 trucks to traditional chiefs a few weeks ago.”
“Yet Zimbabwean cities have rotting garbage on the streets due to a lack of garbage trucks caused by a de@d economy and lack of creative leadership at all levels of politics.”
“Take a look at this truck and see what those 100 trucks could have been doing in urban neighbourhoods.”
“You see, again and again, this regime is proving that it has no ideas and that its level of thinking is Grade Zero.”
“This is not the first time these Chiefs have been given these trucks, which you see parked outside rural bottle stores or sometimes pirating at rural growth points.
But who cares?”
“As I always repeat, those with ideas have no power, and those with power have no ideas and the political will to implement ideas they are given!”
“Zimbabwe is saddled with politicians without a worldview, and who lack global exposure!
Is the electorate different, after all these politicians come from our communities.”
“Dr Solomon Guramatunhu reminded us that these politicians are a reflection of the communities they are coming from.”
“Zimbabwe can surely do better than this, or should surely do better than dishing out brand new trucks to traditional chiefs when its streets have rotting garbage!”
