Hopewell Chin’ono, a journalist and outspoken critic of the Zimbabwean government, has condemned the country’s economic system, attributing it to widespread poverty.
In a statement seen by Newsreportzim.com, Chin’ono highlighted that the Zimbabwean economy has collapsed not only because the ZANU-PF government steals public funds, but also because there is very little production taking place in the country.
“The few factories still operating receive only six hours of electric power at most, and when it comes, the workers are asleep at home because it comes at 12 midnight,” Chin’ono stated.
“Zimbabwe is a textbook example of how not to run a country. The money meant to build power generation was looted and used to buy expensive cars, spent on luxuries in South Africa, and built ridiculous mansions instead of building the future of what is now a desperately poor country.”
At the heart of Zimbabwe’s struggles is the ZANU-PF government’s rampant corruption and mismanagement.
The looting and abuse of public funds have been devastatingly tragic and historic for this country, which used to be the second most sophisticated economy in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 1980s.
“The ruling ZANU-PF steals money that could have been used to build the country’s infrastructure, support local businesses, and create jobs.”
“The power shortages are a classic example of how a country can sink economically. Zimbabwe doesn’t have load shedding; it has power cuts!”
“No country develops when it is led by thieves and crooks who don’t care about the welfare of their citizens, a country where US$7 million is paid to ZANU-PF crooks and they only deliver 4,000 goats worth US$80,000 under a corrupt presidential goat scheme!”
This statement comes after Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu were taken into police custody over corruption charges.
