A 40-year-old man from Chipinge, Mike Shingirai, has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for murdering his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend. Shingirai was convicted of murdering Heriman Kazembe by striking him on the head and body with a log.
The incident occurred on October 31, 2024, at House Number 1172, Mistyview in Chipinge. Shingirai had visited his ex-girlfriend, Tamary Mlambo, who was now in a relationship with Kazembe. An altercation ensued, and Shingirai attacked Kazembe with a log, causing severe head injuries.
The court heard that Shingirai’s actions were a crime of passion, driven by jealousy and anger. Justice Sijabuliso Siziba sentenced Shingirai to 18 years in jail, holding him accountable for his actions.
Mlambo and Tinos Manyonga testified during the trial, providing crucial evidence about the incident. Manyonga stated that he attended the scene of the crime after hearing Shingirai’s voice, and witnessed Shingirai’s violent behavior.
Dr. Robert Gullen conducted a post-mortem examination and concluded that Kazembe’s cause of death was due to epidural haematoma and intraparenchual hematoma secondary to severe head trauma and skull vault structure.
