A 27-year-old man from Chiredzi has been remanded in custody after allegedly attempting to murder his 8-year-old daughter by stitching her head injury with a shoe needle.
Knowledge Ngwendu allegedly attacked his daughter on March 8, 2025, when she fell onto a hoe and suffered a severe head injury. Instead of seeking medical attention, Ngwendu decided to play doctor and injected her with an unknown substance.
Concerned villagers reported the incident to the authorities, leading to Ngwendu’s arrest. The child was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for treatment, where she likely received actual medical care.
Ngwendu told the court that the injection contained a numbing agent he had obtained after a previous snakebite incident. Because, of course, snakebite medicine is totally applicable to human head injuries.
Ngwendu was remanded in custody, with his next court appearance set for next week. The case is being prosecuted by Rutendo Ndibwo as investigations continue. One can only hope that the court’s decision will serve as a wake-up call for Ngwendu to seek proper medical attention in the future.
