MVUMA – Roman Catholic-run St Theresa School of Nursing in Chirumhazu South was gutted by fire last week.
The damage is estimated at US$10, 000, and destroyed were a library, hostel blocks and other valuables including laptops, furniture, kitchen utensils, refrigerators, beds, blankets, solar panels, stoves, library books, clothes and cellphones.
The cause of fire is not yet known but it is suspected that the inferno started from the reception area of the school.
The students are currently housed at the remaining buildings and other contingent measures put in place to alleviate their plight include re-connection of WI-FI donated by Chirumhanzu South MP Barbra Rwodzi.
St Theresa has a student enrolment of 165; 130 female and 35 male.
The deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Sleiman Kwidini visited the school last week to assess the damage and he pledged to assist the institution to rebuild the destroyed buildings.
“The Ministry is mobilizing resources to reconstruct the buildings as soon as possible. We want continuity for studies by the students,” he said.
He urged students who are scheduled to sit for their final examinations next week to remain focused.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube last week handed over maize grain to help the school.
He also called upon the corporate world to assist the school.
