Nineteen-year-old Abraham Soko of Seke has been ordered to complete 245 hours of community service after pleading guilty to engaging in a relationship with a 13-year-old girl, resulting in her pregnancy.
According to reports, Soko received a 12-month prison sentence, with six months suspended contingent upon good behavior.
The remaining six months were converted to community service. Court proceedings revealed that Soko initiated the relationship and had unprotected intercourse with the minor in 2023.
When the girl discovered her pregnancy, her mother reported Soko to the authorities, leading to his arrest on r@pe charges. Regrettably, the girl suffered a miscarriage due to stress caused by Soko’s abandonment upon learning of her pregnancy.
During his trial, Soko claimed ignorance of the legal implications of engaging in s3xual activity with a minor, alleging the girl initiated the encounters.
“I was not aware of the law when we engaged in s€xual intercourse, she was the one who always initiated the s€x,” Soko stated in his defence. “I fell for her demands and committed the offence out of ignorance,” he added.
The State’s case outlined how Soko suggested a romantic relationship to the victim before the s3xual encounters occurred.
The unprotected nature of the s3xual actions, together with the consequent pregnancy and Soko’s subsequent abandoning of the juvenile girl under the age of consent, served as the foundation for the statutory r@pe charge.
