A POLICE detail attached to the ZRP Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been arr3sted for m_rder after st@bbing a colleague during a drinking spree on Sunday this week.
According to a leaked memo, the suspect, Detective Constable Farai Simudzirai (42), is based at CID Mwenezi and was formerly at CID Kariba. He is facing a m_rder charge after he alleged st@bbed Privilege Hove (37) stationed at ZRP Karoi Urban.
The incid3nt took at around 12:30am on April when the two colleagues were drinking beer at Kutepa Ultra City Nite Club.It is said that an argument arose between the two.
“Constable Mirirai Chiweza who is stationed at ZRP Karoi Urban came to restrain Simudzirai and dragged him outside the night club and was h!t with a fist once on the forehead.
“Hove who was also part of the patrons came to the rescue, but Simudzirai produced an Okapi kn!fe and st@bbed Hove once (in) the stomach, resulting in protruding of the intestines. Simudzirai disappeared from the scene and went home,” the memo read.
Chiweza and other patrons reportedly rushed Hove to Karoi District Hospital and the case was reported at ZRP Karoi Urban. Simudzirai was later arr3sted at his residence in Karoi.
Hove was promptly transported to Karoi District Hospital by Chiweza and other patrons who had witnessed the altercation.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the inc!dent yesterday.
“Yes, I can confirm the inc!dent where a police officer st@bbed his fellow member who later succumbed to his !njuries. Investigations are underway and will update more details in due course,” Nyathi said.
