Tafadzwa Chikohora (31), headmaster of Ivyluck College, appeared in court on charges of misappropriating exam fees for three students who were scheduled to take their Zimsec O’ Level examinations in November 2024.
According to reports, Chikohora appeared before Harare magistrate Mr. Dennis Mangosi, facing charges of theft of trust property. He was remanded in custody until October 25 for a bail hearing.
The complainants are represented by Mr. Lucky Sibanda, the college director. Ivyluck College provides education from Form 1 to Form 6 but is not a registered Zimsec examination centre.
The prosecution alleges that in May 2024, the college received US$729 in examination fees to register three students for the Zimsec O’ Level exams at Ellis Robins High School, a registered Zimsec centre. However, Chikohora is accused of misappropriating the funds and failing to register the students as agreed.
To conceal his actions, Chikohora allegedly provided the college with f@ke entry statements, claiming the students had been registered for the November exams. Furthermore, he is accused of creating counterfeit Zimsec examination papers, which were used to facilitate fraudulent exams at the Ellis Robins High School laboratory. After the exams, Chikohora reportedly destroyed the fake papers to cover up the fraud.
The scheme was uncovered when the students discussed the exam content with their peers, raising suspicions that led to Chikohora’s arrest. It is alleged that copies of the counterfeit exam papers were found on his phone.
The total financial loss is US$729, none of which has been recovered.
