The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned about the increasing number of m_rder cases in the country, which are largely attributed to domestic vi0lence, including extra-marital affairs, property disputes, and failure to resolve petty issues between couples.
The police have recorded cases of m_rder committed by individuals who were engaged in petty disputes at beer drinking places, w!tchcraft allegations, and debt settlement disputes.
One such case occurred on July 20 2024, at Bigest Farm, Tengwe, where Liberty Chimurambi (28) lured his wife, Aphocine Mandimutsa (24), to a footpath and st@bbed her with an unknown object on the neck before committing suicid3. The couple had been having a misunderstanding over infidelity and were on separation.
Another case involved Ezekiel Chibvongodze (29), who st@bbed his wife, Mitchel Evelyn Katakwe (25), and his son, Tawana Chibvongodze (5), with an okapi knife at a house in Nyameni, Marondera. The suspect had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue.
In yet another case, Memory Choga (41) was arrested for the m_rder of her husband, Douglas Choga (45), who d!ed after being assa_lted with a log following a misunderstanding over the transfer of his monthly salary from his bank account to his Ecocash account.
The police have also recorded cases of m_rder committed by minors between the ages of 7 and 17 while playing or engaging in various chores. In one such case, a 12-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly k!lling his 10-year-old sister with a stone while they were playing together.
The police are also investigating a case of murd3r that occurred on July 20th, 2024, at Ndunduma Village, Chipinge, where Disco Mubonesi (29) is being sought in connection with the d3ath of his aunt, Mandawani Muponesi (60). The suspect allegedly burnt the victim’s hut and st_bbed her with a sharp object after accusing her of witchcraft.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to find peaceful methods of resolving disputes or differences at family and social levels.
The police appeal for information that may lead to the arrest of Disco Mubonesi and anyone with information can contact the National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp or 0712 800 197.
The police also urge the public to respect the sanctity of human life and implore traditional leaders and the community to come on board in promoting a culture of law-abiding citizens. The police will continue to engage communities to promote peaceful resolutions of disputes and conflicts.
