Paul Makonda, the regional commissioner of Dar es Salaam, proposed a new measure to help single women avoid heartbreak caused by deceitful married men.
He was considering putting the names of all married men on a state-run website to prevent them from misleading single women.
Makonda revealed in 2019 that he’s received numerous complaints from women who have been tricked into believing they were in serious relationships with men who were already married.
Many of these women have ended up heartbroken when these men vanished after making false promises of marriage.
“The situation has become unacceptable,” Makonda said. “Women are being misled and hurt, and it’s time to do something about it.”
He explained that the new system would allow women to check the marital status of any man who claims he wants to marry them.

By registering all marriages—whether Christian, customary, or Muslim—in a regional database, women would be able to confirm if a man is already married before investing their time and emotions.
Makonda emphasized that this initiative aims to put an end to men who exploit women by pretending to be single. He also warned that once the system is up and running, those who deceive women will face consequences.
“We are working on this plan with the state agency responsible for citizen databases,” Makonda added. “If you’ve lied to a woman about marrying her and then dumped her, be ready—change is coming.”
