The mother of Renia Gwarumba, a Zimbabwean woman who tragically died from alleged food poisoning just days after her lobola ceremony, has also passed away.
Renia, a member of the Zion Christian Church, got traditionally married on December 22, 2024, but fell ill after consuming what many believe to be poisoned food during the ceremony.
She passed away on January 3, 2025, and was laid to rest on January 5, surrounded by grieving family and friends.
The devastating news of Renia’s death reportedly took a severe toll on her mother, leading to her passing on the same day her daughter was buried.
This double loss has left the Gwarumba family in deep mourning.\

Some reports suggest that Renia’s mother may have also consumed the tainted food, although no official confirmation has been provided.
Renia’s mother is survived by a son named Eric and a husband who is said to be suffering from a psychological breakdown due to the overwhelming grief of losing both his wife and daughter in such a short span.
The community has expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic circumstances surrounding Renia’s death, with some people advising caution regarding large gatherings during significant family celebrations.
Others have called for traditional healers to assist the family through “back to sender” rituals, intended to cause harm to the alleged perpetrator until a confession is made.
