A nurse at Chitungwiza Central Hospital has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of an eight-month-old child’s body from the mortuary. Munashe Ganyiwa, 32, is alleged to have been involved in the incident.
The child’s parents, Shamiso Nyause and Givemore Charindapanze, reported that their baby, Emmanuel, passed away on Sunday after being admitted to the hospital’s pediatric ward. The body was taken to the mortuary, but when the parents went to collect it on Monday, it was nowhere to be found.
The mortuary attendant searched the facility, but the child’s body was not among those stored. When questioned, the nurse who had handled the child’s body suggested that it might have been cremated. This led to the nurse’s arrest. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
The police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the child’s body. The incident has raised concerns about the handling of deceased patients at the hospital.
