As the Christmas and New Year holidays draw near, three traffic accidents this week have resulted in ten fatalities and several inj_ries, some of them severe.
About 80 kilometers west of Beitbridge town, near Makhado commercial center, a Toyota Fortuner and a cross-border bus headed for South Africa collided head-on yesterday morning, k!lling two persons.
The bus driver struck a stray donkey and veered into oncoming traffic, hitting with the vehicle traveling towards Gwanda on the Beitbridge – Bulawayo road.
Two people in the car died instantaneously, and the bus driver was injured. “We received two bodies, and the bus driver is admitted to the hospital,” Beitbridge’s district medical officer, Dr. Lenos Samhere, said. A Toyota Hiace vehicle toppled three times at the 26km peg near Norton on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway on Tuesday, k!lling five persons.
Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto, the acting provincial police spokesperson for Mashonaland West, stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll three times before landing on its right side. At Norton General Hospital, the fifth person passed away from their wounds, while the other four died immediately. The accident occurred about 6am around Family 24 on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
The deceased were carried to the hospital’s mortuary, while the injured were transported to Norton General Hospital. Drivers were advised by Assistant Inspector Chapoto to be extra cautious and refrain from speeding. A side-swipe collision between a Toyota Hilux and a Honda Fit at the 156-kilometer mark on the Harare-Nyamapanda route on Monday resulted in three fatalities and three injuries. Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a spokesman for the national police, verified the accident.
According to reports, the Toyota Hilux, which was carrying two people towards Nyamapanda, and the Honda Fit, which was carrying five people towards Harare, collided after the Hilux driver struck a dog that was pursuing a cow.
Mr. Misheck Mubvumbi (48), the driver of the Honda Fit, attempted to avoid the cow by side-swiping and driving into oncoming traffic.No one was hu_rt when the Toyota Hilux flipped three times and landed on its side. One individual was instantly k!lled when the Honda Fit rolled once and fell on its wheels.
After being admitted to Mutoko Hospital, Mr. Mubvumbi passed away from severe inju_ries to his head and chest. At the same hospital, another traveler passed away from their wounds.
 The deceased’s next of kin have been informed by the police and have confirmed that they are their relatives. These collisions occur as law enforcement steps up its efforts to combat careless driving throughout the holiday season.
