A father was f@t@lly shot while attending his son’s funeral in Ravensmead, Cape Town, on Saturday morning.
The sh0cking incident unfolded at Beverly Court, where mourners had gathered to pay their final respects to the son, known as Brampie, who had been murd3red just days prior on Wednesday.
According to police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, the tr@gedy struck around 8:45 AM when a 26-year-old man approached the grieving father, 54, fatally wounding him with a gunshot to the back of the head. Eyewitnesses indicate that after the sh00ting, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly pursued by members of the community.
A resident who witnessed the incident revealed, “One of the shooters went back to ensure the father was dead, and that is when community members caught him.”
In a swift act of retribution, the suspect was apprehended and beaten to d3ath at the scene, using stanchion steel posts and slabs by furious community members fed up with the violence plaguing their area.
Lucian Davids, spokesperson for the Ravensmead Community Policing Forum, expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence, stating, “This is an unspeakable act to do while someone is being laid to rest. We condemn this terrible precedent in the strongest terms.” He noted that the deceased suspect was already facing murd3r charges and had been required to live outside the area due to bail conditions.

The police confirmed the separate murder investigations stemming from the two d3aths at the funeral. Van Wyk added that the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related, highlighting the disturbing nature of the incident.
This occurrence has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents horrified and disheartened. Davids further emphasized the dangers posed by escalating crime, noting that, “This does not inspire confidence in families. Crime is creeping much closer to our personal spaces and creates conditions where the community is forced to act outside of legal bounds.”
The Ravensmead CPF has called on the South African Police Service to respond promptly to this incident, reaffirming their commitment to community safety amid rising criminal activity.
