A gruesome discovery was made on the railway tracks beneath the Luveve Road flyover in Bulawayo yesterday morning. The dismembered body of a man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found with limbs scattered nearby. Authorities suspect foul play, and investigations are underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the man’s death.
National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) public relations manager Andrew Kunambura said the train crew spotted the body from a distance and applied the brakes, stopping the train before reaching the victim. Kunambura believes the man may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped on the railway line to suggest a suicide or train accident.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death. The body has been taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
This is not the first incident to occur along this stretch of railway line. In October last year, a 62-year-old homeless man narrowly escaped death when an NRZ engineman spotted him sleeping on the tracks and managed to stop the train just in time.
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing horror and disbelief at the gruesome sight. The police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
