VICE President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Kazan, Russia where he is expected to officially open the inaugural multidisciplinary sports tournament, ‘Games of the Future’.
Vice President Chiwenga was met at the Kazan International Airport by Mr Oleg Korobchenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan.
The inaugural Games of the Future, a unique cybersport event blending physical and digital elements, is set to kick off in Kazan on February 21, 2024.
The event will feature teams from 107 countries, showcasing cutting-edge technology and innovative esports disciplines.
Vice President Chiwenga has been invited by the Russian Federation government as Guest of Honour for the opening ceremony.
Speaking soon after arrival, the Vice President said Russia’s invite highlights the strong, long-standing ties between Zimbabwe and Russia, dating back to the Soviet era.
Unlike traditional esports, the Games of the Future focus on “phygital” disciplines, merging physical exertion with digital components.
These groundbreaking concepts push the boundaries of e-sports and encourage new forms of athleticism.
This tournament leverages cutting-edge technology across various fields, including cybersports, robotics, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and information technology.
With a $25 million prize pool, the Games of the Future are poised to attract top talent and further propel the evolution of esports.
The event also serves as a platform for strengthening international relations and fostering collaboration in areas like agriculture,commerce, mining, sport and education.
