The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a warning about a troubling rise in drowning incidents nationwide.
As of September 3, 2024, Commissioner Paul Nyathi of the ZRP reported that there were 29 dr0wning cases recorded from June through August 2024.
These incidents occurred in various contexts, including swimming, fishing, participating in Manjuzu rituals, and bathing.

One significant case involved a drowning on July 7, 2024, in Domboshava.
The victim lost their life while taking part in Manjuzu rituals at Garimo River in Chinamhora.
On August 20, 2024, another drowning occurred at Harzel Dine Farm Dam in Karoi, where the individual drowned while casting fishing nets.
Additionally, on August 28, 2024, a person drowned in the Chilonga River in Kamativi while swimming.
Commissioner Nyathi has called on the public to exercise extreme caution around water bodies as the rainy season approaches.
