In a startling turn of events in Mabvuku, Saturday afternoon, emergency services were called to respond to a case of severe hunger that left a young woman unconscious.
Alice Nhoko, 27, had planned a weekend visit to see her married boyfriend, Takudzwa, 32, but her trip took a dire twist.
The couple had intended to leave for sports later that day, but as the afternoon wore on, Alice collapsed from hunger.
Their weekend took a chaotic turn when Takudzwa sought shelter with his friend Tindo, a tout who had decided to spend the weekend back in Mutoko with his family.
Unfortunately, Takudzwa wasn’t much of a chef; the fridge was bare save for some water.

The boyfriend had relied on another friend, Morris, to buy mealie meal and relish, but he vanished with the cash, leaving the trio in a bind.
After consuming nothing but cascade and jumbo buns, Alice found herself overwhelmed—not by romance, but by hunger.
She’s currently recuperating at the home of Tindo’s landlord, where the promise of porridge fills the air.
“I just wanted a proper meal,” she lamented weakly, refusing to comment further on her ordeal.
Meanwhile, Takudzwa, fearing potential repercussions, has gone into hiding.
