A tragic incident unfolded last Thursday at Zhombe Mission Dam in Kwekwe District, Midlands Province, when two young boys lost their lives while swimming after school.
Ropafadzo Jim, a first-grade student, and Ebenezer Khumalo, a second-grade student, both attended St. Martins Deporis Primary School.
According to Chief Gwesela of Zhombe, the children were on their way home when curiosity led them to play at the dam.
In an unfortunate turn of events, one boy became trapped in the mud and began to drown, which prompted the other to try and save him.
In a desperate bid for help, a third child ran to nearby shops to alert adults in the community.
Tragically, by the time they returned, both boys had already succumbed to the water.
The villagers came together to conduct a thorough search, eventually recovering the bodies of the two neighbors, which has left the local community in deep mourning.
