Hundreds of people gathered at the homesteads of the Siziba and Nyathi families in Zezane, Beitbridge, to witness a unique event – the double burial of two brothers who were both liberation heroes. The burials of Cdes Samson Nare (who took his mother’s surname) and Musuthu Siziba took place on October 5th, drawing a somber crowd.
Samson Nare, who joined the liberation struggle in 1977, made his way to Zambia through Botswana and then proceeded to the Nampundu transit camp. Following his training in Angola, he was deployed to the front lines, operating in the Nkayi Area until the demobilization exercise in 1981. Sadly, Nare passed away on September 29th, 2023, at the age of 66, after a prolonged illness. His selfless service to Zimbabwe during the war of liberation will always be remembered.
Musuthu Siziba, on the other hand, passed away on September 30th, 2023, at the age of 71, after experiencing difficulties breathing. He received his military training in Zambia at the Mulungushi training camp and was later deployed to Hurungwe and Chinhoyi areas. In 1981, Siziba was integrated into the Zimbabwean National Army at Llewellyn Barracks.
During the burial ceremony, the Minister of State for Matabeleland South Province, Cde Evelyn Ndlovu, conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. The chairperson of the war veterans association in Matabeleland South, Cde Alfred Moyo, expressed his deep sorrow, mentioning that his generation is rapidly diminishing. He emphasized the importance of the younger generation embracing and upholding the ideals of independence, which the departed heroes had sacrificed their lives for.Councillor for Ward 11, Mpulukeng Lamula, shared her profound sadness over the loss of the two brothers, highlighting their significant contributions to the community. Their absence leaves a void in her ward, and she called upon the youth to take on the responsibility passed down to them by these heroes and continue their legacy.The double burial of these two brothers, who were esteemed heroes of the liberation struggle, has left a profound impact on the community. As they are laid to rest, their sacrifices and dedication to Zimbabwe’s independence will forever be remembered.
