Discussions are underway regarding the potential dissolution of Dynamos Queens and the Dynamos junior football team as the Harare-based club grapples with financial difficulties, sources have revealed.
The club’s development committee, responsible for overseeing the junior and women’s teams, has formally advised the board that continuing to support these teams is no longer viable.
“We, as the development committee, have communicated with the board, recommending the disbandment of the junior teams due to financial constraints. Despite our efforts, we have not received financial backing from the club, and it has been the members of the development committee who have been funding these teams from their personal resources,” a source informed NewZimbabwe.com.
Currently, the Dynamos junior team competes in the ZIFA Division Two league, while the ladies’ team participates in the ZIFA Northern Region Women’s Soccer League.
Dynamos has been embroiled in financial turmoil, exemplified by the dismissal of club vice chairman Vincent Chawonza in February, which marked the onset of their financial woes. Chawonza, a businessman, had been providing financial support to the club from his personal funds.
Several players are yet to receive their sign-on fees, with outstanding payments dating back to the previous year.
Potential Ramifications of Dynamos Ceasing Sponsorship of Women’s and Junior Football:
If Dynamos opts to cease sponsorship of their junior and women’s football teams, they risk disqualification from participating in the upcoming 2024/25 CAF Confederations Cup, for which they qualified after winning the 2023 Chibuku Super Cup.
Under CAF regulations, clubs must meet FIFA club licensing requirements to compete in continental competitions, which includes maintaining active women’s and junior football teams.
