Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s leading mobile telecommunications company, has launched a robust challenge to Starlink’s entry into the market with its SmartBiz broadband data packages.
Designed to cater to various business segments, including SMEs, farmers, schools, and churches, Econet’s offering promises high-speed broadband data services at competitive prices.
Starting at US$45 per month, Econet SmartBiz provides unlimited, high-speed internet at a fixed rate, with tiered packages up to US$417 for 50Mbps.
This positions Econet as a formidable competitor to Starlink, which offers packages starting at US$50 per month for residential users, with higher tiers available for businesses.
According to Newsday, a senior Econet executive expressed confidence in the company’s ability to compete with Starlink, emphasizing Econet’s commitment to bridging Zimbabwe’s digital divide.
By focusing on affordable, high-speed internet solutions, Econet aims to maintain its market lead and provide customers with a reliable alternative to Starlink’s satellite broadband offerings.
“We are committed to providing reliable, affordable connectivity to ensure that businesses, even in the most remote locations, can thrive in the digital economy.
“With our extensive 4G and 5G network infrastructure, further bolstered by ongoing nationwide upgrades, SmartBiz is designed to empower enterprises of different sizes across the country,” said Kezito Makuni, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe’s Chief Operating Officer.
