Zimbabwean socialite and men’s advocate Shadaya have come forward in support of Elder Maponga, following the release of a controversial video.
In the video, which surfaced on the internet and was seen by Newsreportzim.com, Elder Maponga discusses the traditional practice of paying lobola (bride price) for a non-v!rgin bride.
His remarks, made during an appearance on The Denny J Show, have sparked significant debate.
In the video, Elder Maponga articulates his views with a striking metaphor, saying, “Respect the last passenger who pays for everyone who rode the bus for free.

When everyone was riding for free, why must the last man pay lobola…rinenge rangova apple rarumwa rumwa uku pangosara chitambo chete pamusoro,” which translates to, “It’s like an apple that has been bitten all around, only the core remains.”
Shadaya, known for his outspoken views on gender issues, has echoed Elder Maponga’s sentiments.
He stated, “Elder Maponga speaks about paying lobola for a non-v!rgin. Why should a man pay for something other men got for free? Ladies, a man marrying you when he didn’t dev!rgin you is a man saving you from shame.
He did you a favor, the least you can do is respect him. Respect the last passenger who pays for everyone who rode the bus for free. Learn OR perish!!!”
The video and Shadaya’s remarks have prompted a flurry of reactions on social media, highlighting the divisive nature of the topic. One user, @thealphasto, commented, “The respect you want from a non-virgin woman is NEVER going to happen, unless you were her 2nd body who ABSOLUTELY imprinted her s3xually and psychologically. If you weren’t her imprint, forget about her respecting you, find someone who does!!”
Another user, @_TheBloodTalon, added a comparison to illustrate his point, saying, “It drives them crazy, but if you ask a woman if she’s willing to pay 30k for a 2021 Honda Civic or 30k for a 2024 Hyundai Elantra, every person will go for the 2024 edition. Why, because it’s a new car, new seats, no mileage, new tires, new brakes, no previous history.”
The debate also saw users questioning the double standards inherent in the discussion. One commenter asked, “What about if both of us are not v!rgins? I devirgin someone, didn’t marry her… go on to marry another and expect her to be a v!rgin? If that is the logic then there must be a law forcing men to marry whoever they dev!rgined.”
Another pointed out the complexities of personal histories, saying, “What if the lady didn’t do it intentionally, some were r@ped.
And besides, some were just forced into it by peer pressure. Just like us men, we have other things we did not do by choice but by pleasing our friends, and some by being forced. So it depends on what happened back then.”
A more skeptical view was expressed by another user, who speculated, “My hunch without evidence is that: Either the show host, Maponga himself, or Shadaya, will or have already married a non-v!rgin.
And are/will be happy in their matrimonial homes.”
