A man from Domboramwari in Epworth, located outside Harare, has appeared before magistrate Nyaradzo Manokore on charges of stealing motorbike batteries belonging to the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa).
The accused, Calton Drau (27), pleaded guilty and has been remanded in custody until December 28 for sentencing.
According to the prosecution, on December 20, a Zinwa security detail on night duty discovered that several motorbikes were missing their batteries. In response, the complainant assigned Kevin Gwaze, one of their subordinates, to safeguard the property.
During the early hours of December 24, 2023, around 2 am, Gwaze caught Drau red-handed while in the act of stealing the batteries. Subsequently, Drau admitted to having been involved in battery theft for some time.
Following police investigations, some of the stolen batteries was recovered from Drau’s residence in Epworth.
The case against Calton Drau highlights the alleged theft of Zinwa motorbike batteries and his subsequent confession. Drau will await his sentencing as the legal proceedings continue.
