An Epworth traditional healer and her associates were abducted by seven men over allegations of conducting a fake cleansing ceremony.
On 18 January, Gogo Gamuchirai Gwenhamo, known as a traditional healer in Epworth, along with her associates Isaac Chihoro and Abel Bango, faced the harrowing situation as they were whisked away by seven individuals who accused them of faking a cleansing ceremony for Abba Chidagomo of Retreat, Waterfalls.
Source reports that Isaac and Abel reportedly shared details of Abba’s life with Gogo Gamuchirai, orchestrating the sham cleansing ritual. Abba, joined by Admos Mpofu, Collen Gumbato, Naison Nyamashuka, Tendai Hamadziripi, Bright Svakaya, and Fungai Ndoora, collaborated to kidnap the trio, leading to their arrest at Mabvuku turn-off.
Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, the acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest:
“Police arrested seven suspects in connection with kidnapping three people that included a traditional healer. Circumstances are that on January 18, at around 1000hours, the accused persons approached the traditional healer accusing her of giving one of the accused a fake cleansing ceremony.
“The accused persons went on to assault and interrogate the healer who confessed that her ex-boyfriend and his friend were behind the deal because they supplied classified information concerning the client’s misfortunes.”
The assailants then coerced the healer to summon the other two victims to collect their share from the charged amount. Upon their arrival, the duo fell into the trap. The Seven men kidnapped and took them to a secluded area in Sunway City. There, the seven severely assaulted them with electrical cables, baton sticks, and fists.
The victims convinced the assailants to drive them to Mabvuku turn-off, to meet a relative who could provide the cash. This move led to the intervention of the authorities, resulting in the arrest of the seven.
