Admire Munyeki, a former nurse hailing from Mbizo 5 in Kwekwe, has been found guilty of illegally conducting four surgeries in Gokwe, posing as a qualified medical doctor.
Munyeki’s deceitful practices have raised serious concerns about public safety and the risks posed by unqualified individuals in the medical field.
Munyeki appeared before Magistrate Grace Tupiri at the Kwekwe Magistrates Court, where he faced multiple charges for violating the Medical Act.
These charges stemmed from his fraudulent representation as a medical practitioner and his engagement in unauthorized medical procedures. Admitting to his wrongdoing, Munyeki has since been remanded in custody and is awaiting sentencing, scheduled for Thursday.
The series of events began on January 5, 2024, when Munyeki claimed to be a dental practitioner while treating Stella Sibanda, who had come to him with a toothache. In an alarming display of negligence, he proceeded to extract two of her teeth without the proper medical qualifications.
Following the procedure, Sibanda experienced increased pain and sought help at the Samuchembu Health Centre, leading to the revelation of Munyeki’s fraudulent practices.
Munyeki’s unauthorized medical interventions did not end there. On March 1, 2024, he performed a circumcision on Daison Chelo, who approached him for relief from pain in his private area.
After the procedure, Chelo suffered significant complications and was also compelled to visit the Samuchembu Health Centre, where medical staff discovered that Munyeki was not a licensed practitioner.
In another troubling incident, Munyeki impersonated a medical professional yet again when he conducted surgery on Erisha Siakachoma’s neck to remove a growth. This unauthorized procedure placed Siakachoma’s health at risk, and he too had to seek medical attention at the same health center.
Munyeki’s fraudulent actions caught up with him when he was apprehended by authorities while attending a funeral wake in Chirape, Gokwe, last Monday.
