South African musician Makhadzi’s witty response to criticism she received for her remarks about Zimbabwean musician Winky D has left Zimbabweans in stitches.
Her witty comeback shared on her Facebook account, showcases her ability to address criticism in a lighthearted manner while highlighting her cultural connection to Zimbabwe.
South African musician Makhadzi caused a stir yesterday after publicly expressing her frustration and disappointment with the Africa Music Festival UK.
Makhadzi alleges that she was deliberately sabotaged during her performance, with fellow Zimbabwean musician Winky D performing for an extended period of time, encroaching on her allocated time on stage. She blamed Winky D for causing the fiasco.
Makhadzi’s remarks blaming Winky D for the fiasco that occurred at the Africa Music Festival UK led to a backlash from Winky D’s fans. They took to social media to express their disapproval and roasted Makhadzi for her allegations. The fans criticized her for trying to shift the blame onto Winky D.
In the midst of the controversy surrounding her remarks about Winky D’s lengthy performance, Makhadzi took to her Facebook account to respond in a lighthearted manner. In the Shona language, she wrote,
“Zvinonetsa mabatiro anokuita vanhu kana urimutorwa Havazive ndiri mwana wevhu,” which translates to “It’s difficult to understand what people say when you’re not a native. I am a child of the soil”
This playful and humorous response aimed to address the criticism she had received while also showcasing her “cultural connection” to Zimbabwe left her Zimbabwean fans rolling on the floor with laughter. Some speculated that fellow Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah may have written the posts for Makhadzi, as they found it unlikely that she would be able to write such deep Shona herself
In another post, responding to those who were making fun of her nose saying that it is too big, Makhadzi sarcastically claimed that she was going to cut it off so that critics will no longer have anything to mock her with.
Tomorrow iam going to cut my nose 👃. So when I talk about my album no one will not have something to say about my looks.
