The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident that occurred on September 5, 2024, at the 217 km peg along the Harare-Masvingo road at approximately 6:00 AM, resulting in the d3aths of three individuals and inj_ries to two others.
The accident involved a UD truck carrying three passengers, which reportedly veered into the lane of an oncoming Freightliner truck, also occupied by three passengers, leading to a catastrophic head-on collision.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, where they found the aftermath of the crash devastating, with significant damage to both vehicles.
The fatalities included two passengers from the UD truck and one from the Freightliner, all of whom were pronounced d3ad at the scene.
The bodies of the victims were subsequently transported to Mvuma District Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The two individuals who sustained !njuries were also taken to the same hospital for immediate medical attention, where they are currently being treated.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, seeking to determine the cause of the collision and any contributing factors.
This incident has heightened concerns about road safety along one of the country’s major highways, prompting calls for increased vigilance from drivers to prevent further tragedies.
