A fire broke out during an airshow in Bethlehem, Free State, over the weekend, causing damage to over 20 cars and inj_ring one person.
According to police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, 19 cars were burn3d after a fire broke out during an airshow in Bethlehem. Of the 19 cars damaged by the fire, eight were completely destroyed. The total damage to the vehicles is R3 million.
According to Arrive Alive, expensive cars such as Audi and Mercedes Benz were involved in the fire. Earle also verified that one individual was h@rmed when he attempted to move his car.
The individual, whose age is unknown, is receiving treatment at a local hospital. The fire that took place in the parking area of the airshow is still being investigated by the police.
“There will be no speculation about the cause of the fire,” stated Earle, “as the cause of the fire is still being investigated.”
The Bethlehem airshow is an annual event that has been planned since 1999, according to the Dihlabeng Municipality.
The Dihlabeng Municipality stated on Facebook that the goal of the airshow is to encourage social cohesiveness within the community, improve capacity for presenting aviation careers to students, and center around the local community’s active participation in development through various means.
With the executive mayor of the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, Tseki Tseki, in attendance, the Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism, Toto Makume, opened the Bethlehem airshow.
