The normally quiet corridors of Usher Girls High School in Figtree, Matabeleland South, were recently abuzz with unexpected activity.
Instead of regular school events, two Form 3 students decided to have a “mock wedding” right in their classroom, complete with a US$180 bride price already paid.
The unusual scene quickly attracted attention.
A teacher, who asked to remain unnamed, shared that the classroom celebration included classmates, decorations with balloons, and the significant bride price.
However, the source of the US$180 is unknown.

The headmistress, who was patrolling the school, was taken aback when she discovered the impromptu wedding.
Some students ran away in surprise, while others, including the “bride” and “bridegroom,” stayed behind.
The school took immediate action.
The two girls’ parents were called in, and the girls were given transfer letters.
According to B Metro, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is investigating the incident.
Spokesperson Taungana Ndoro emphasized that the ministry is focused on maintaining a positive learning environment and urged the public to respect the privacy of those involved.
The reasons behind the girls’ decision remain unclear, but the event has sparked discussions about the need for better education on gender roles and boundaries.
