Charles Manyuchi, a recognized former boxing champion famed for holding multiple welterweight titles, faces a court ruling to pay $18,000 in damages after becoming embroiled in an extramarital affair with a woman he trained at his gym.
The High Court in Masvingo, presided over by Justice Zisengwe, issued a default judgment in favor of Tapiwa Munyaka last Tuesday.
Munyaka, who works as a regional manager for a microfinance institution, uncovered the @ff@ir in 2021 after examining his wife’s phone and discovering explicit images related to Manyuchi and his spouse, Chengeto Viola Munyaka.
Munyaka contended that the !ll!cit relationship not only damaged his self-worth but also exposed him to serious health risks, including potential exposure to s3xually transmitted diseases, due to the couple’s failure to use protection during their encounters.
The boxer’s gym was located at the Flamboyant hotel in Masvingo, where it seems Manyuchi took advantage of his position. Munyaka’s marriage, which lasted seven years, has since dissolved irreparably, according to the evidence presented in court.
Remarkably, Munyaka had initially encouraged his wife’s gym attendance, even accompanying her and allowing her to work as a promotional figure for Manyuchi’s boxing events. The couple even visited various tourist destinations celebrating Manyuchi’s successes, highlighting Munyaka’s trust in both Manyuchi and his spouse.
In a statement to the court, Munyaka expressed profound emotional turmoil,as reported by Masvingo Mirror stating, “The careless actions of Manyuchi have put me at risk of exposure to HIV and other s3xually transmitted diseases. The circumstances of my wife’s pregnancy only underscore the lack of safe practices between them. I now face the distressing reality of caring for children that are not biologically mine.”
Manyuchi, a respected figure in the boxing world and former champion of several international titles, was delinquent in responding to an initial demand letter sent to him in November 2022, prompting Munyaka to seek legal action for a default judgment.

According to Munyaka, his wife became pregnant as a result of her affair with Manyuchi but ultimately terminated the pregnancy. Munyaka and Chengeto’s union began with a traditional marriage in 2015, followed by a formal wedding in 2019, during which they welcomed two children.
Throughout the ruling, Munyaka noted that he had initially extended his support to Manyuchi’s training sessions alongside his wife, unwittingly paving the way for Manyuchi to develop a relationship with Chengeto.
The affair reportedly commenced when the couple joined Manyuchi’s training program. Munyaka stated that Manyuchi deliberately selected Chengeto for promotional roles, which enabled further interactions that led to the affair.
Seeking damages of up to $50,000, including $30,000 for the emotional toll on his marriage and $20,000 for humiliation endured, Munyaka was ultimately awarded $18,000—$8,000 for loss of companionship and $10,000 for emotional distress.
After realizing the affair in late 2021, Munyaka sought redress from Manyuchi, who failed to engage or offer any form of acknowledgment, pushing Munyaka to pursue legal action for resolution after waiting two years without response.
His attorney, Charles Ndlovu of Ndlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners, represented him throughout the proceedings.
