From $1 heap of potatoes to fame: Tariro Gezi shares her journey

Tariro Gezi, a renowned socialite, has captivated audiences with her glamorous lifestyle and engaging personality. But her path to fame was paved with humble beginnings and unwavering determination. Her journey is a testament to the power of persistence and the belief that success can arise from the most unlikely places.

Tariro’s story began in Kuwadzana Extension, a bustling suburb where she and her friend Bertha started a small business selling fresh chips and sausages. Their “office” was a modest setup on the corner of a busy street, affectionately known as “paLeft turn.” With a borrowed 3-litre gas tank from Tariro’s mother, they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey.

“Shoko raraparidzwa kuti Hanzi munhu wemusikana rara waverenga dollar,” Tariro recalls with a smile, reflecting on the early days when word spread that a young woman was making a living selling snacks. They would buy a small bag of potatoes for just a dollar, which yielded four portions of chips. “On our first day, we made $8,” she remembers. It was a modest start, but it ignited a spark of hope and ambition.

Every day, Tariro and Bertha showed up, rain or shine, gradually building their business. “We kept on showing up until we were selling a whole pocket of potatoes,” she says. The experience taught her valuable lessons about perseverance and dedication. “Whatever stage you are in life, embrace it and give your all.

Opportunities come when you least expect them. Even if they don’t, you will have grown in wisdom.”

Tariro’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished as she learned the principles of business and customer service from her time at the market.

These principles, she says, are still the foundation of her success today. “Most of the principles I use now were learnt ndiripamsika! Handei tinokwana kwana,” she declares, emphasizing the importance of hard work and resilience.

As her small business grew, so did Tariro’s confidence and vision for the future. She expanded her ventures, venturing into different markets and leveraging her growing popularity. Her vibrant personality and keen business acumen soon caught the attention of social media, where she quickly amassed a following.

With each post, Tariro shared not only her successes but also the struggles and lessons learned along the way. Her authenticity resonated with many, particularly young women who saw in her a role model and a source of inspiration.

“Success doesn’t happen overnight,” she often reminds her followers. “But with persistence and patience, we can build a strong foundation for long-term growth and achievement.”

Today, Tariro Gezi is more than just a socialite; she is a symbol of hard-earned success and the power of never giving up.

Her journey from selling chips in Kuwadzana to becoming a celebrated socialite is a story of hope, determination, and the belief that no dream is too big.

“Sebenza Girl Child,” she encourages with a wink, embodying the spirit of hustle and resilience. Her journey continues to inspire, reminding us all that no matter where we start, with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
