About Uncle Roland
Uncle Roland’s life wasn’t always filled with luxury and glamour; his rags-to-riches story is remarkable.
Born Isheanesu Rolen Muchegwa in 1969 in the mining town of Zvishavane, Zimbabwe, he grew up in a humble environment. His father worked for the Cold Storage Commission and eventually relocated the family to Harare, where he ensured Roland received a quality education.
However, his academic journey took a turn when he was expelled from school for a prank involving a math compass. He then continued his education at Mukai Primary School in Highfield, a high-density suburb.
According to Buzz South Africa, while Roland was known for his intelligence, he was also quite mischievous, speaking five languages fluently.
After completing his studies, he landed a job at an insurance company. Unfortunately, his rebellious streak led him into trouble, resulting in a two-year prison sentence for his involvement in a marijuana deal.
Upon his release, Roland faced the challenge of rebuilding his life with a criminal record that made finding formal employment difficult. He pivoted by importing and reselling second-hand clothing, a popular market among Zimbabweans who shopped in Mozambique for clothes from Europe and the U.S.
With his entrepreneurial spirit, Roland persevered and eventually met Victor Mereki, a fuel dealer, who introduced him to the lucrative petroleum business. That partnership marked the beginning of his financial success.
As Roland expanded his ventures, he began supplying government departments in Zimbabwe and other SADC countries. Today, Uncle Roland owns nightclubs, transportation services, fuel operations, and mining businesses.
His impressive portfolio includes a jaw-dropping mansion and a fleet of luxury vehicles. To top it off, he has earned a reputation as the king of extravagant parties in South Africa.
