Four fuel attendants at a Glow Petroleum service station in Chishawasha, Harare allegedly faked a robbery incident involving US$5,000 accruing from the day’s fuel sales before sharing the loot among themselves.
The four are Blessing Gariremo, 22, Samuel Munyanyi, 21, Terrence Machipisa, 20 and Plaxedes Shava, 24, all from Chishawasha.
They all appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi and were granted US$150 bail each.
The four will be back in court on November 10.
According to the State, the four are employees of Glow Petroleum in Highlands station.
“On the 8th of October, accused 1 to 4 connived and, acting in common purpose, took money amounting to US$5,000 which they collected from fuel sales at Glow Petroleum Centre along Mutoko Road near Shamva turnoff tollgate, Highlands Harare and converted the money to personal use,” prosecutors say.
The offence was discovered by their manager while reconciling daily sales.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the four, who were all on duty on the day in question, had not surrendered their daily cash sales.
“To cover up the offence, the accused alleged to the complainant that they had been robbed by four unknown accused who were driving an unmarked Honda Fit vehicle,” court heard.
Court was told that only US$150 was recovered.
