In a sad development, Ghana international football player Raphael Dwamena d!ed after collapsing on the pitch during a league match in Albania.Raphael Dwamena who played for the Ghana international football team reportedly collapsed in the 24th minute of an Albanian top division match between Dwamena’s team KF Egnatia and Partizani.
In an official statement, the Ghana Football Association confirmed his passing, expressing condolences to his family:
“Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time.“Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse.
Rest In Peace Raphael.”
The Albanian Football Federation (AFL) also extended their condolences to his family and his club Egnatia.
“The AFL expresses its deepest condolences to the Dwamena family and the Egnatia club for this great loss that has shocked the entire Albanian football community,” the federation said.As a result of this tragedy, Saturday’s match was abandoned, and the AFL has postponed all games scheduled in Albania for this week.
A distressing video clip depicting Dwamena’s collapse circulated on social media, showing players from both KF Egnatia and Partizani rushing to his aid. Despite the immediate intervention of specialist doctors and the prompt arrival of an ambulance, Dwamena, unfortunately, passed away.Raphael Dwamena’s flourishing football career was abruptly cut short. As the top goal scorer in the current Albanian league, he netted nine goals and earned nine caps, scoring two goals while representing his country.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Dwamena has collapsed during a football match.
According to CNN, sometime in October 2021, Raphael collapsed during a match between his then team Blau-Weiß Linz and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup.
