On this World Press Freedom Day, we celebrate the important role that journalists and media fraternity play in our society.
Their tireless efforts to seek the truth, inform the public, and hold those in authority accountable are essential to keep our nation forward.
Without a free press, our democratic struggle would be incomplete.
As we commemorate World Press Freedom Day, it’s crucial to reiterate our unwavering support for media professionals dedicated to truth-telling.
Their safety remains paramount, particularly for those reporting on sensitive matters. Their commitment to upholding truth deserves our steadfast solidarity. Each journalist who diligently pursues and presents the truth contributes to preserving the essence of the Zimbabwean narrative.
A Better Zimbabwe with #BetterPolitics will have a society where journalists can work without fear, and where the truth prevails.
Happy World Press Freedom Day!
The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day or just World Press Day, observed to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in Windhoek in 1991.
