At the launch of the Youth Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol (CAIA) in Chilenje, Hampende Malambo, the Ward Development Committee (WDC) Chairperson, voiced a deeply concerning issue. He highlighted that many young girls in the community are becoming mothers without knowing who the fathers are, as they were intoxicated during the encounters.
Malambo noted the alarming rates at which young boys and girls in Chilenje are consuming alc0h0l and abusing drugs. These observations underscore the critical need for intervention and support within the community.
To address these challenges, various organizations from the public, private, and social sectors united earlier this year to form the Coalition Against Illicit Alcoh0l (CAIA). The coalition aims to tackle the rampant abu-se of alcoh0l and dru_gs among the youth, promote responsible behavior, and provide resources and education to prevent substance ab_se.
The launch event served as a platform to discuss the impact of illicit alcoh0l and drug use on the community, particularly on the youth. It also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in creating a safer and healthier environment for the next generation.
Through CAIA, stakeholders are working together to raise awareness, implement preventive measures, and support those affected by substance abuse. This initiative is a step towards reducing the negative consequences of illicit alcohol and dr_g use, and fostering a more resilient and informed community in Chilenje.
