A 30-year-old woman from Ushewekunze, Glen View, has shared a harrowing tale of abduction and drugging after hailing a ride on High Glen Road. The ordinary-looking white Honda Fit turned into a nightmare when two men in the back seat injected her with an unknown substance, rendering her unconscious.
When she awoke, she found herself in a locked room in Mutorashanga, over 130km from Harare. Her captors held her against her will, injecting her with more substances and keeping her captive for four days. The woman’s ordeal included being given minimal food and drink, and being forced to bathe under supervision.
In a daring move, she seized an opportunity to escape when she found the door unlocked. She stumbled upon a nearby homestead, where the family provided her with assistance, including transport money, and contacted her family.
The woman was later taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for a medical check-up. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and urged the public to exercise caution when using public transport.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of using unregistered or unlicensed taxis, commonly known as “mshikashika.” Commuters are advised to prioritize their safety and use reputable transport services.
