Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, a Nigerian gospel artist and fitness enthusiast, was arrested on Sunday, January 12, after he was found with the severed head of his girlfriend near a church in Orozo, a community on the edge of Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports, the incident unfolded as church services were nearing completion around 11 a.m. Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, recounted how a church member named Bro Victor noticed a suspicious figure near a river adjacent to the church.
The man, later identified as Ajayi, was seen carrying a bag, and when approached, he hastily threw a black nylon bag into the river.
Despite their inquiries, Ajayi claimed he had thrown nothing and tried to leave.
However, as Umaru and Bro Victor continued their discussion, two motorcyclists approached them, inquiring about a man that matched Ajayi’s description.
The church members directed the bikemen to where Ajayi was hiding, prompting him to flee.
A brief chase ensued, and with the help of others, Ajayi was captured after a struggle in a nearby farm.
When authorities arrived, Ajayi shared details about his relationship with the victim, revealing that they had been together for about a year.
He explained that a heated argument erupted when he discovered his girlfriend was conversing with another man.

In the ensuing confrontation, she cut his hand with a knife, which led him to seize the knife and fatally stab her in the neck.
Upon opening the bag Ajayi had discarded, police found the decapitated head, confirmed to belong to his girlfriend.
He stated that he intended to deliver the head to a woman who had sent him on this errand.
The FCT Police Command later clarified that this shocking incident occurred in Nasarawa, not within the FCT, urging the public to verify the accuracy of such reports. DSP Josephine Adeh, a police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and the details surrounding it, emphasizing the need for clear and concise information to prevent misunderstandings.
Ajayi, who hails from Kabba in Kogi State, was acknowledged not only as a suspect in this heinous crime but also as a gospel singer, identified by a friend from Lagos.
